World Dance Day 

Every April 29th is celebrated the World Dance Day. If you are visiting Costa Dorada, Costa Brava or Barcelona, it is an incredible opportunity to get to know the most typical dance styles of Spain and Catalonia.

Flamenco 

Let’s start with Spain’s most famous dance, Flamenco. It has its origins in the South of Spain, in the gypsy communities of Andalusia. Flamenco is an explosive combination of guitar, singing, dancing, clapping and castanets. 

This dance style, being incredibly captivating and magnificent, in 2010 was declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.

Sardana

In the Catalan region, the dance par excellence is the sardana. The dance is performed by a small group of people holding hands in a circle while dancing to a traditional musical group called ‘Cobla’.

The dance of the sardana is a key element in the celebrations and popular festivals, citizens gather to have fun together and thus celebrate through this dance rooted in the traditional Catalan culture.
