In the 16th and 17th centuries, Arbúcies and its surroundings were known for the strong presence of witchcraft, so much so that the saying ‘twelve women, thirteen witches’ was used. This popular saying reflects the belief that the women of Arbúcies accepted witchcraft as part of their lives for centuries.
