Enchanted Rocks Forest Route
This route is one of the most fascinating excursions to do in autumn, when the beech forest is tinged with golden and reddish tones. The landscape is magical, with rocks that seem to have been sculpted by nature and the passage of time. These rock formations, which are between 33 and 65 million years old, came to this place due to the action of water and earthquakes in the 14th and 15th centuries. It is believed that the water cracked them, and the movements of the earth broke them apart to form the landscape that we admire today.
In addition to the natural beauty of the route, there is also the legend that surrounds the forest. It is said that a demon, in his moments of boredom, pushed these enormous rocks, causing them to crash against the houses of the nearby village of Sant Feliu de Pallerols. The villagers, fed up with this torment, prayed to God, who expelled the demon and chained the rocks to the mountain.
The route can be started from the Santuari de la Salut or the Coll de Condreu, both of which offer paths that allow you to enjoy the landscape in all its splendour. Furthermore, a curious fact is that millions of years ago this forest was submerged under the sea, which adds even more mysticism to the experience of walking along its paths.
Route through Arbúcies, land of witches
The Arbúcies route is one of the most intriguing in the Montseny massif, a place shrouded in witches‘ legends. In the 16th and 17th centuries, Arbúcies and its surroundings were known for the strong presence of witchcraft, so much so that the saying ‘twelve women, thirteen witches’ was used. This popular saying reflects the belief that the women of Arbúcies accepted witchcraft as part of their lives for centuries.
As well as strolling along the Arbúcies stream, we recommend that you visit the Plaça Major or Plaça de l’Església, where there is a centuries-old tree that is considered magical and is said to possess telluric properties. According to tradition, by approaching the tree and placing your hands on its trunk, you can make a wish and, with a little faith, see it come true.

Discover the medieval villages of Costa Brava
Another of the most captivating routes through the province of Girona is the one that connects its medieval villages, located on Costa Brava. For example, you can visit Pals, with its Romanesque tower and cobbled streets; Peratallada, with its impressive walls and well-preserved medieval architecture; Monells, with its charming arcaded square; and Begur, with its castle overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.
Finally, don’t forget to visit Tossa de Mar, a town that perfectly combines its medieval legacy with coastal beauty. Its impressive walled enclosure, known as Vila Vella, is the only example of a medieval fortification still standing on the Catalan coast, and from here you can enjoy spectacular views of the sea and the landscape surrounding this marvellous enclave.
The Neolithic site of La Draga, bathed by the lake of Banyoles
On the other hand, if you are a prehistoric enthusiast, a visit to the Neolithic site of La Draga, the only one with a lake environment in the whole of the Iberian Peninsula, is a must. Founded around 5,200 BC, when the waters of the lake were two metres lower, the Neolithic settlement occupied around 10,000 m², of which 1,000 m² are now submerged in the lake of Banyoles.
The partial submersion of the site underwater adds a special component to the visit, offering a unique perspective on how Neolithic communities interacted with their natural environment.
Jewish Girona
Did you know that the Jewish quarter of Girona is the best-preserved Jewish quarter in Europe? A stroll through its narrow cobbled streets is a trip back to medieval history, when Girona’s Jewish community flourished between the 12th and 15th centuries.
The route begins in Carrer de la Força, the heart of the neighbourhood, where you can visit the Museum of the History of the Jews, which houses important vestiges of this community.
Another key site is the Bonastruc ça Porta Centre, believed to be the former synagogue and seat of rabbinical studies. As we move along the Call, we come across Carrer Claveria, another testimony to the Jewish urban fabric.
In every corner of the neighbourhood, one can imagine how Jewish families lived and prospered until their expulsion in 1492. The courtyards and alleyways hide a wealth of architectural and cultural details, making this route a must for those who wish to understand the history and legacy of the Jewish community in Girona.
