Where and when

The event will take place between July 22nd and July 28th, on Blanes beach, with the last two days to be confirmed, except for 23 July, which is the general election. This year will be the 51st edition, taking place as part of the Festa Major in honour of Saint Anne and Saint Joachim. Approximately 120,000 to 150,000 spectators, including families, friends and tourists, are expected to congregate in the arena, eager to witness one of the biggest fireworks displays in Europe. The atmosphere is palpable, and the sound of the sea will mix with the excitement in the air.

The fireworks will be launched from the rock of Sa Palomera, in the sea, in the bay of Blanes. They will start every day at 22:30h and can be seen from all over the city, although we recommend that you go before to have a good place to watch them, especially if you plan to do it from the beach.

Origin

This fireworks display has a century of tradition behind it. Anyone who has visited Blanes in the last hundred years will have heard about this great spectacle, of which there are some written references as far back as 1891. Only the Civil War between 1936 and 1944 and the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021 prevented the celebration of the fireworks, but since then there has not been a summer without the sky covered in lights, colours and fire.

In its early years, the Blanes fireworks were a modest display, with a shorter duration and a smaller variety of pyrotechnic effects. However, as the popularity of the event grew and gained recognition from locals and visitors, the organisers began to invest more time and resources in the development of the fireworks.

Over the years, the Blanes fireworks evolved and were perfected. Specialised pyrotechnicians were hired to design and execute the show, which allowed the use of more elaborate techniques and effects. The duration of the fires was extended, and additional elements, such as music and coordination with lights and sounds, were incorporated to create a more immersive and exciting experience.

Watching the fires from the sea by boat

An original and popular way to watch the fires of Blanes is to do so from a boat, at sea. This is a very common thing that boat owners choose to do, although there are also many boat rental companies that offer excursions so that you can do it too. It is a different experience that attracts visitors from all over the world, and even people from around Costa Brava, Barcelona and Costa Dorada. This way, watching the fireworks from the sea allows you to enjoy the event from a unique point of view while relaxing in the Mediterranean Sea.

Other curious facts

One of the most outstanding features of the Fireworks of Blanes is the recurrent use of drones. Dozens of illuminated drones fly in perfectly synchronised formations, creating images in the night sky. From shooting stars to ever-changing geometric shapes, the drones add a whole new dimension to the spectacle and demonstrate how technology can enhance artistic beauty.

The choice of music is also critical to the success of the event. The organisers carefully select a mix of classical and contemporary tunes to suit each moment of the show. Energetic rhythms and soft notes combine to create a perfect symphony with the fireworks, transporting spectators on an emotional journey through time and space.

Safety is also a priority during the Blanes Fireworks. Every precaution is taken to ensure that the event runs smoothly. Safety zones are set up, barriers are in place and trained personnel are on hand to respond quickly to any emergency. The coordination between the security teams and the event organisers is impeccable, allowing attendees to enjoy the show with complete peace of mind.
