Get to know the airports on the Catalan coast
First, you should bear in mind that the coast of Catalonia has three main airports, which receive many flights every week: Barcelona-El Prat Airport, Reus Airport and Girona Airport.
The most important of all in terms of activity and passenger traffic is Barcelona-El Prat Airport, which is located just a few kilometres from the centre of the Catalan capital; just 1 hour and a half from destinations such as Salou, PortAventura, Cambrils, La Pineda and Tarragona, on Costa Dorada; and just 1 hour and 20 minutes from towns such as Girona, Lloret de Mar, Blanes and Platja d’Aro, on Costa Brava. You can find more information about its facilities in our article “8 curiosities about Barcelona-El Prat Airport“.
This large airport handles more than 50 million passengers every year, and therefore has two different terminals: Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. It is surprising to know that the oldest is the one we know as Terminal 2, inaugurated in 1963, and which underwent its first transformation with the arrival of the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games. Terminal 1 did not begin to be built until 1991, and came into operation less than 20 years ago, in 2009.
In the case of Reus Airport, its size is much smaller, with just over 1 million annual users, concentrated mainly in the months closest to the summer. Its facilities are located about 10 kilometres from the cities of Reus and Tarragona, so they are very close to the main destinations in the area. It also connects different international destinations with Costa Dorada.
It should also be noted that Reus Airport has been recognised as ‘The Best Airport in Europe’, with less than two million passengers, by the Airports Council International (ACI).
Lastly, Girona Airport, no less important, is in the heart of the province of Girona, in La Selva region, and is a direct connection to Costa Brava, which is home to the sun and beach destinations par excellence, such as Tossa de Mar, among many others. This infrastructure welcomes more than 1.5 million passengers every year.

If you have luggage with you, if you prefer, you can also choose the free loan service of luggage carrier equipped with Maxi-Cosi or child seats, which you must request at the information points available at Aena.
