Get to know Reus Airport

In the province of Tarragona, about 3 kilometres from the city of Reus, and about 7 km from Tarragona, Reus Airport is one of the three airports that make up the coast of Catalonia, along with Barcelona-El Prat Airport, the most important in terms of facilities and traffic volume, and Girona Airport, similar to Reus Airport.

It also stands out for its privileged location, just a short distance from Costa Dorada, one of the most popular destinations for tourists, especially in the summer months, along with Barcelona and Costa Brava, and where the most important tourist towns in the area are located, such as Salou, Cambrils, La Pineda, Torredembarra, Calafell and L’Hospitalet de l’Infant, among many others.

This aerodrome has evolved over the years. Its history began in 1935, when the Real Aeroclub de Reus decided to build a landing field on this land. Years later, during the Spanish Civil War, this space housed one of the three military aerodromes in the area.

In 1952, the facilities were extended with the addition of a compacted runway, measuring 2,200 metres by 45 metres. From then on, the airport was opened to civilian passengers, and twenty years later, the terminal building, dedicated to users, was built. Commercial use of the airport continued to grow over the years, until 1998, when it became exclusively for civilian use, leaving military operations to a minimum.

The facilities have been improved over the last two decades, thus achieving an infrastructure adapted to current needs. It is worth noting that Reus airport has managed to position itself as one of the best airports in Europe, with less than two million passengers, receiving various awards in 2021, 2022 and, most recently, in 2023.

The Centre for Advanced Aviation Studies (CESDA) is also in the vicinity of the aerodrome, where you can study to become a pilot, a project attached to the Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV)

This past year 2023, Reus Airport has welcomed more than 1 million passengers and has carried out more than 20,500 operations.
