Best plans for Valentine’s Day in Barcelona

Valentine’s Day is approaching, one of the most beloved and important dates in the calendar to celebrate love. It is an ideal opportunity to give your partner or special person something romantic or just a small detail to not be indifferent and have a moment of intimacy with that person.

The origin of Valentine’s Day is unknown and sometimes historical data is mixed with legends. The most common origin refers to Valentine of Rome, a priest in the city of Rome in the Ancient Ages who professed the Christian faith around the 3rd century A.D. According to legend, the emperor of the time, Claudius II, forbade engagement and marriage among the population, as he considered single soldiers to be better than soldiers with partners. In defiance of the emperor’s ban, Valentine continued to marry young couples in secret according to the Christian rite. When the authorities discovered this clandestinity, they imprisoned the priest and subsequently executed him on 14 February 270 AD, giving origin to the festival of lovers.

A day loved by many, but also disowned by others. Don’t worry if you don’t have a partner! Self-love is the most necessary of all. In this article we share ideas that you can adapt to your taste to celebrate it alone or with friends.

What a better way to celebrate this day than buying a plane ticket and landing at Barcelona airport, Reus airport or Girona airport. In addition, the transfer to the city of Barcelona can be arranged with Shuttle2Sun, we offer you the best option to move around and discover the most romantic places in Barcelona.

Cervantes Park

The main entrance to Cervantes Park is located on Avinguda Diagonal, at one end of the city of Barcelona. It stands out for its large rose garden, its tranquillity and intimacy and offers the right place for those couples who want something more traditional as you will find a bit of silence among beautiful architecture, landscaping and biodiversity.

San Valentin en Barcelona

Tibidabo

You may think that climbing Tibidabo on Valentine’s Day is a bit unoriginal and classic, but the truth is that it is a plan that never fails. You can get there by doing sport or going for a bike ride and then take a well-deserved break to enjoy the incredible views of the city.

Fabra Observatory

If Ryan Gosling managed to win Emma Stone’s heart in the film “La La Land” in an observatory, what’s stopping you? That’s why we suggest a visit to the Fabra Observatory. It is located in one of the most beautiful and elevated points of the city where you can contemplate a starry night with your own eye. It’s also very close to Tibidabo, so the two plans can be included as a package. A tour of this observatory includes an observation with a telescope and a visit to the exterior of the dome.

Cafè de l’Arquitecte at Hotel Casa Sagnier

This restaurant has managed to become one of the most masterful places for lunch and dinner. The restaurant, which pays tribute to the contemporary architect Enric Sagnier, is located inside the boutique-style Hotel Sagnier, with 51 luxury rooms.

Casa Batlló

It is one of the most important symbols of Barcelona, so a cultural visit to its interior can be a great plan for this day. This work of Gaudí can be enjoyed in a very different way thanks to 10D Experience proposing a unique and digital tour. Last 2021, the Tiqets cultural platform awarded it as the Best Monument of 2021 in the Remarkable Venue Award, a worldwide event that recognises the best tourist attractions.

A quick visit to Sitges

If you already know Barcelona like the palm of your hand and you’re looking for a plan outside of it, we recommend a quick visit to Sitges. Although the range of cities on costa del Garraf is almost endless, this city, surrounded by the Garraf natural park, could be the perfect choice for spending Valentine’s Day. Strolling by the sea, enjoying the endless number of restaurants and cinematic sunsets are just some of the many things you can do in this coastal town.

Montserrat

Montserrat is a beautiful mountain sanctuary of monks located about an hour northeast of Barcelona. Not only the monastery is beautiful, but the surroundings are simply stunning. You can also plan a walking route along some of the walks that allow you to see one of the most unique rock formations in Catalonia.

Strolling through Barcelona’s neighbourhoods

A romantic yet simple plan can be a stroll through Barcelona’s most charming neighbourhoods. One of them is La Rambla, offering a pleasant evening not only on Valentine’s Day, but at any time of the year. It is considered one of the most emblematic streets in the world for its history and character, and an important symbol of Barcelona.

The Gothic Quarter is another place of great historical and cultural interest. It is located in the nerve centre of the city, so it is easy to visit, even if it is only for a quick one, from wherever you are. It has some 2,000 years of history, making it the oldest neighbourhood in the city.

Bunkers of Carmel

It may not be as well known as Tibidabo, but the Carmel Bunkers are still a lovely option. It’s free and there’s no timetable, so all you have to worry about is the weather forecast. This viewpoint offers views of the Barcelona skyline and, if you like to wake up early, you can watch the sunrise.

So far, this is our recommendation for Valentine’s Day. Don’t forget that Barcelona has a large repertoire of plans that you can adapt to this celebration, so we recommend you visit our blog post “Fall in love with Barcelona“.
