Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya 

The Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (MNAC), housed in the impressive Palau Nacional de Montjuïc, is one of Barcelona‘s most emblematic museums. Founded in 1934, the MNAC houses one of the most complete collections of Romanesque art in the world, along with Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and modern art. This museum is a visual trip through the history of Catalan and Spanish art, offering a unique cultural experience to its visitors.  

The MNAC presents a wide variety of permanent and temporary exhibitions and stands out for its rich collection of Romanesque frescoes that were rescued, such as, for example, the painting of Christ in majesty, located in the vault of the apse of the church of Sant Climent de Taüll. As well as works by renowned artists such as El Greco, Zurbarán and Velázquez. In addition, its modern art section includes pieces by Antoni Gaudí, Ramón Casas and Josep Llimona, reflecting the essence of Catalan modernism.

The History Museum of Catalonia, located in the Palau de Mar in Barcelona, is a space dedicated to preserving and disseminating the history of Catalonia, from its origins to the present day. Picasso Museum 

Another cultural space not to be missed during your visit to Barcelona is the Picasso Museum, which houses one of the most extensive and complete collections of the famous painter, with more than 5,000 works that allow you to discover the artistic evolution of Pablo Picasso from his early years to his maturity.   

Among the most emblematic pieces in the museum are several works from the series Las Meninas, in which Picasso reinterpreted Velázquez’s classic work in 1957; Portrait of Aunt Pepa (1896); Barceloneta Beach (1896); and Man in a Beret (1895). There are also works from his blue period, such as The Divan (1899), which shows the influence of Parisian bohemia and the melancholic atmosphere that characterises this period.

Joan Miró Foundation  

The Fundació Joan Miró in Barcelona is a space dedicated to the work and legacy of the famous artist Joan Miró. Founded in 1975 by Miró himself, this museum seeks to show not only his work, but also to bring the public closer to his artistic vision and creative experimentation. Located in Montjuïc, the Fundació Joan Miró stands out not only for its content, but also for its building, designed by the architect Josep Lluís Sert, a friend of Miró.   

For the whole family: CosmoCaixa and Big Fun Museum  

For those visiting Barcelona with children, there are museums specially designed to offer an educational and entertaining experience for the whole family. The CosmoCaixa Science Museum is an excellent place to arouse curiosity and learn about subjects such as physics, biology and the environment.
