Gracia Quarter

A must if you visit the city of Barcelona.

From Parc de la Creueta del Coll, along with Monte Carmelo and Turó de Rovira form the park of ‘los Tres Cerros’, to the Mestre Balcells Gardens, an oasis located in the Vila de Gràcia, to relax and enjoy this park dedicated to the director of the Orfeó Gracienc.

Discover the traditional modernist building that houses the Mercado de la Llibertat with its glazed ceramics and supported by a metal skeleton in line with the construction systems used in European buildings such as Les Halles in Paris. The Albacería Central Market, located on Travessera de Gràcia, is another must-see. The Catalan writer Mercé Rodoreda, was inspired by this market to give content to her novel Plaça del Diamant. It is one of the busiest places in the neighbourhood, the products and the popular prices at the service of the locals have made it a symbol of the neighbourhood.

The Clock Tower is another symbol of the Vila. This building, built in 1864, was erected when the Vila was still an independent municipality, and became a symbol following the uprisings at the end of the 19th century. Together with the shelter in Plaça del Diamant, it is one of the largest of the 1,300 shelters built in Barcelona during the Civil War.  These two places can usually be visited during the Gràcia town festival.

We must not forget its main festival, which takes place throughout the month of August. This festival dates back to the middle of the 19th century of a religious nature, although nowadays it has become a popular celebration with a very special attraction, being able to discover the decoration of the streets of the neighbourhood.
