The towers of the Sagrada Familia

One of Barcelona’s most famous monuments, visited by millions of people, is the Sagrada Familia, one of the most outstanding works of the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí and a must-see if you visit the city. If you want to know more about this temple, don’t miss our post “Sagrada Familia in Barcelona”.

In addition to visiting its interior, the basilica offers the possibility of climbing one of its towers, the Passion Façade or the Nativity Façade, from where you can enjoy a different perspective of the Sagrada Familia, as well as impressive views of the neighbourhood and L’Eixample.

On the other hand, another place of worship that offers incredible views is the Basilica of Santa Maria del Pi, climbing its octagonal bell tower.

360º viewpoint of the Glòries Tower

Another of the most outstanding buildings in the city skyline is the Glòries Tower, formerly known as the Agbar Tower, and popularly known as the Suppository, among other curious nicknames. It stands out for its original shape, up to 145 metres high, designed by the French architect Jean Nouvel and built of reinforced concrete and glass.

Natural viewpoints Barcelona

We recommend you go up to its 360º viewpoint, located on the 30th floor, especially at night, as, in addition to the views of the city at dusk, you can enjoy the light show that fills the entire façade of the tower.

Inside, you’ll also find Tomás Saraceno‘s multi-sensory, interactive and walkable work, “Cloud Cities Barcelona”.

Columbus viewpoint

The monument to Christopher Columbus hides a 60-metre-high viewpoint from where you can see the whole of the Rambla and Barcelona’s seafront. And did you know that his finger does not point to America? We recommend you go up and find out where the figure is really pointing.

The Montjuïc mountain

At the highest point of Montjuïc mountain is Montjuïc Castle. Since the 11th century, this mountain has had a watchtower, but it was not until the 17th century that it was decided to build a fortification to turn the mountain into a defensive watchtower. Today, it has a large viewpoint from which you can see the port, the sea, Barcelona airport and, inland, Tibidabo.

On the same mountain, at the end of Avinguda Maria Cristina, stands the Palau Nacional de Montjuïc, which houses the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (MNAC)

At the top of the building are the terraces, from where you can see the entire staircase leading up to the museum; the Four Columns, designed by Josep Puig i Cadafalch; the Magic Fountain of Montjuïc; and further on, the Venetian Towers and Plaça Espanya

Natural viewpoints

Barcelona has several small hills scattered throughout the city. Thanks to their different locations, they offer a wide range of possibilities from which to observe the beauty of the capital from above.

Some of them are, for example, the Turó de Putxet, 178 metres high, located near Park Güell; the Turó de la Rovira, 262 metres high, where the Carmel anti-aircraft batteries are located; the smaller Turó de la Peira, with magnificent views of the sea; and the highest, the Turó del Carmel, also known as the “Montaña Pelada”, because of its sparse vegetation. Don’t miss the Torre de Collserola public viewpoint, near the Tibidabo amusement park and the Expiatory Temple of the Sacred Heart, on the outskirts of the city, overlooking the Sierra de Collserola mountain range.

Enjoy the best views of Barcelona, visiting all these viewpoints. Remember that Shuttle2Sun offers its shared transfer services and private transfer services, low-cost and sustainable, from Barcelona airport, Barcelona port, Reus airport, Girona airport and Camp de Tarragona AVE train station.
