Autumn begins today

Autumn is here. Today, Saturday 23rd of September, is the day of the autumnal equinox in the northern hemisphere, when the length of day and night are practically the same. The end of summer, with the consequent drop in temperature, the transition to winter, the falling of the leaves from the trees and landscapes in shades of orange, ochre and brown characterise autumn, a time of year which, in Latin, means ‘arrival of the fullness of the year’.

Despite the changes that the arrival of autumn brings to the whole planet, Catalonia has a privileged Mediterranean climate, which allows the people who live there and tourists who visit the territory to continue to enjoy a wide variety of activities, which can be carried out all year round.

If you are thinking of visiting any town on Costa Dorada, Costa Brava or Barcelona or the surrounding area, we bring you a list of ideal options to enjoy the arrival of autumn. With Shuttle2Sun‘s shared transfer services and private transfer services, low-cost and sustainable, you can travel to any town, from Barcelona airport, the port of Barcelona, Reus airport, Girona airport and the AVE Camp de Tarragona train station.

Camino de Ronda, on Costa Brava

All along Costa Brava, from Blanes to Portbou, you can enjoy, all year round, the route of Camino de Ronda, a walking route along narrow paths that follow the coastline and allow you to discover the great scenic beauty, the local natural heritage and the biodiversity of the area. The whole route is suitable for everyone, with different recommended routes, depending on physical condition.

Camino de Ronda, historically, was created to communicate the different towns along the coast, and to make it easier for fishermen and sailors to return to their ports of origin in the event of shipwreck, as well as to control smuggling and maritime smuggling.

There are two different routes along Camino de Ronda: firstly, the linear route, a total of 43 kilometres, linking the towns of Sant Feliu de Guíxols and Begur; and secondly, the circular route, which is much longer, up to 140 kilometres, starting and finishing in the city of Girona

Another interesting option to enjoy this autumn is to travel to Barcelona to visit some of the many museums in the city. A good example is the Caixaforum, with experiences for families, workshops and exhibitions. As well as the CosmoCaixa Science Museum, with different spaces dedicated to palaeontology, geology, biodiversity and nature, which also has a digital planetarium, to discover the universe as you’ve never seen it before.

Another very original place to visit is El Born Centre de Cultura i Memòria de Barcelona, part of the Barcelona Institute of Culture, which aims to highlight the heritage and knowledge surrounding memorial expressions through exhibitions, cultural and educational activities. Previously, these facilities were a market, which was closed in 1971 and restored in 1979. The idea of creating a cultural centre was born in 2003, which was inaugurated in 2013. During your visit, you can also see the site of the old Born Market, dating from the late 17th and early 18th centuries.

On the other hand, if you want to learn about the masters of contemporary art, don’t forget to visit the Moco Museum, in Barcelona, with several permanent exhibitions about the stars of modern art, such as Banksy, Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring and Yayoi Kusama, among many other artists.

Michelin-starred gastronomy

Catalonia has positioned itself, in recent years, as a great gastronomic reference, thanks to the excellent range of restaurants and local products that can be found in the territory. From typical dishes to signature cuisine, Catalonia offers quality, tradition, fusion and modernity in its kitchens, with 53 restaurants with one, two and even three Michelin stars

Moreover, this autumn is ideal for tasting seasonal foods, such as mushrooms, pumpkin, sweet potatoes and chestnuts, among others.

Sports activities on the beach

The beaches and coves that make up the Catalan coastline, as well as its calm, crystal-clear waters, are the perfect setting for any aquatic or nautical activity, every month of the year, especially if you want to continue enjoying the sea beyond the summer season. Some examples are kayaking and paddle surfing, scuba diving, water walking and open water swimming.

On the sands of the Catalan beaches, you also have a wide range of infrastructures at your disposal for playing beach volleyball and beach football, as well as for practising calisthenics.
