Art in movement: Temporary exhibitions you can find in Barcelona

Barcelona is a very diverse city, where culture and art form an essential part of its identity. From its iconic architectural works to its internationally renowned museums, Barcelona is a place where artistic and cultural expressions are experienced at every turn. This rich cultural legacy makes it a must-see destination for art and history lovers.

One of Barcelona’s great virtues is its ability to constantly reinvent itself. Its museums and cultural centres not only house permanent collections of great value but also offer an extensive calendar of temporary exhibitions that change throughout the year. These exhibitions range from contemporary art and photography to archaeology, design and much more, ensuring there is always something new to explore.

Visiting the Catalan capital at different times of the year means rediscovering the city from new perspectives. If you want to discover this side of the city, you can travel from Barcelona Airport, Barcelona Port, Reus Airport, Girona Airport and Camp de Tarragona AVE train station with Shuttle2Sun‘s low-cost and sustainable shared transfer services and private transfer services.

Fundació Miró

The Fundació Joan Miró, located on the iconic Montjuïc mountain, is one of Barcelona’s cultural epicentres. This space, which pays tribute to the legacy of the brilliant Catalan artist, also stands out for its commitment to contemporary art and temporary exhibitions that broaden its creative horizons.

The foundation is currently hosting two exhibitions that offer unique perspectives on art and creation. On the one hand, the exhibition ‘MiróMatisse. Beyond Images’, available until the 9th of February 2025, explores the dialogue between two titans of modern art: Joan Miró and Henri Matisse. Through a careful selection of works, this exhibition reveals the influences, parallels and affinities between the two artists, highlighting how their creative approaches intertwined across cultural and stylistic boundaries. A unique opportunity to immerse oneself in the pictorial universe of these two magnificent artists.

On the other hand, ‘The Last Match Factory’, open to the public until the 16th of March 2025, transports us to a story where art and industrial memory intertwine. This exhibition presents a project about the former Kelantan Match Factory, the last match factory in Malaysia. It is a reflection on the processes of creation and the traces of the past in the collective imagination, all framed in a visually captivating proposal.
