At Shuttle2Sun we would like to wish all our customers a happy Easter Sunday! We hope you are enjoying these Easter holidays by relaxing on one of the beaches of Costa Dorada or Costa Brava, listening to the waves of the sea while having a delicious paella with family or friends. Do you know the Catalan traditions of these dates?
In Catalonia, one of the Easter traditions par excellence is the ‘Mona de Pascua’, which symbolizes the end of Lent, thus being celebrated after Easter Sunday and giving its name to ‘Easter Monday’, which this year is celebrated on April 18.
According to tradition, the godfather must give as a gift to his respective godson or goddaughter a ‘Mona’, which is usually a chocolate figure, a cake or pie, to be eaten during Easter Monday. This gift is aimed more at the little ones of the house, to turn this celebration into a magical and whimsical day. And the fact is that every year it is more and more typical to see incredible chocolate “monas” in bakeries, which form a masterpiece. Whether it is a chocolate castle with figurines of the current most watched cartoons or a chocolate egg, decorated like the one in the picture, Catalan children have a lot of fun during this event.
